Is there a secret to opening the bottle pump? I was able to open the conditioner bottle but not the shampoo-tried hot water, tapping, even pliers

You have to Remove, or Detach and lift, the pump tube Away from the bottle, wipe off the upper part of the gooey plastic pump body, grasp or gently use pliers to LOOSELY hold the tube (to stop it from spinning), and then while holding... rotate the pump nozzle counterclockwise until it releases and pops up. Then reassemble the pump onto the bottle. It could be easier, but it is what it is.
